How To Grade an Assignment using a Marking Guide v2

How To Grade an Assignment using a Marking Guide v2

Idea
Overview
Grading assignment submissions using a marking guide is generally more detailed and less subjective than assigning a single overall grade. A marking guide is also easier to set up, making it a practical option for many educators.

You can also choose to make the marking guide visible to students before they submit their work. This allows them to understand the specific criteria they'll be assessed on, helping them focus on key learning objectives and align their work accordingly.

In this tutorial, we’ll walk you through the steps for grading assignments using a marking guide.

InfoNOTE: You need LMS Admin or Trainer access before you can perform this action.

Warning
IMPORTANT: The marking guide must be set up before you can proceed with this tutorial.

Step Tutorial
1. After logging in, navigate to the course where you need to grade an assignment.

2. Click on the assignment activity to open it.

2. On the assignment page, there are two (2) ways to grade the submissions.

First option: Under the Assignment tab, click Grade.

Second option: Go to the Submissions tab, then click Grade.

After clicking the Grade button, the feedback page will be displayed.

NOTE: Clicking the Grade button without applying any filters on the submissions page will display all submissions for the activity from each user.
If you wish to skip to or jump to a specific user, you can use the arrow buttons or the search field located in the upper-right corner of the feedback page.

3. The feedback page includes the following:
  1. Student's name
  2. A downloadable link to the submitted file
  3. In the Grades section: the marking guide criteria, including comment boxes and score fields for you to complete
  4. In the Feedback comments section: a text box where you can provide feedback, and an option to upload a feedback file for the student
  5. Attempt settings
  6. A Notify student checkbox, which you can enable to notify the student that their assignment has been graded

After working on the feedback page, you can either:
  1. Click Save changes, or
  2. Click Save and show next to save your feedback and move on to marking the next student's submission.
